I am a typical American having roots in several different parts of the world. I am mainly German on both of my parents’ side. From the German heritage a few traditions have stuck with my family. Every year on December 6th Saint Nick comes and fills our stocking with goodies such as candy and small gifts to hold us over till Christmas. The 6th of December is Staint Nicholas day. As a child I always wondered why he only came to my house to fill my brothers and I stocking. But now that I am older I understand that it’s a German tradition that was passed on from my great grandma on to every generation to follow.
This is a 4 generations picture. It’s safe to say it is one of my favorite pictures of all time. This picture shows me, my mother, grandma, and great grandma. My great grandma was one in a million. I will never forget her stories about life and her family. Her husband my great grandpa was an inventor. He invented an egg washing machine. Once the chicken laid the egg you put it in the top of the machine and as it traveled down the egg was cleaned and ready to be sold. I never got to meet my great grandpa but from all the stories I have heard about him from my great grandma and my grandma I feel like we really did know one another.
This is my great grandpa William. He is about 20 years old in this picture. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. His brother my great uncle served in the military as well but in the army branch.
Grandma and Grandpa Logel. Some of the best grandparents someone could ask for. They are always there for the important milestones and even the minor ones. Whenever I needed help or a ride home from school sick I always called them. They would drop everything and pick me up even if it meant a 15 mile drive to the school. They just had their 50th wedding anniversary. When I see them together holding hands and still so much in love it melts my heart. I can only hope that one day I will have a friendship, marriage, and love just like theirs.
